EMBROIDERING A PICTURE:THE ART OF MAURIZIO ANZERI AND JOSE ROMUSSI

Il lavoro di Maurizio Anzeri, artista italiano di Loano e Jose Romussi artista cileno, è in qualche modo simile: i due collezionano foto vintage in bianco e nero, scovate sulle bancarelle dei mercatini delle pulci o dimenticate in qualche soffitta e le rielaborano ricamando arabeschi geometrici sopra visi e corpi di altri tempi. Regalano così una nuova vita a immagini destinate all'oblio, cosa che secondo me è sempre encomiabile. Maurizio si concentra più sui volti e usa i fili di lana come fossero matite colorate per creare figure che a volte risultano inquietanti e surreali; Jose Romussi non altera troppo il significato della foto,  ma dona un tocco di colore ai tutù di ballerine anni '20 e '30 che diventano quasi tridimensionali.

The creative work of Maurizio Anzeri, Italian artist from Loano and the one of Jose Romussi Chilean artist, is in some way similar: they collect vintage photos in black and white,

unearthed in the stalls of some flea markets, or forgotten in some attic and they elaborate them embroidering geometric arabesque on faces and bodies of other times. In this way they give a new life to images destined to remain hidden and I think this thing is always laudable. Maurizio focuses more on the faces and uses wool trades as if the were colored pencils to create images that sometimes are disturbing and surreal; Jose Romussi doesn't alter too much  the meaning of a picture, but he donates a touch of colour  to the tutus of the ballerinas from the 20 ies and 30 ies that becomes almost tridimensional.
