MARINA SAGONA -EDEN

"Eden", the new project of New York based artist Marina Sagona opened at La Nuova Pesa - center for contemporary art in Rome in partnership with the Ierimonti Gallery of New York. In this new work the artist puts the emphasis on the inversion of the values ​that characterize the contemporary world. Values ​​such as love, friendship and compassion are emptied of their positive role and marginalized opening the way to a new way of feeling. The world is launched towards a new "state of nature" where the law of the strongest is applied and where a system of absolute freedom that finally becomes anarchy and state of war is established. In this new work Marina Sagona continues the dialogue she had started in her previous project dedicated to the women of the Divine Comedy and asks questions such as: how would you rate in today's society the women condemned by Dante? It is really being damned or in today's world it is being saved? What is present day's Eden of the living? Through her paintings, Marina Sagona takes us in this world step by step by step and reversal of roles occurs: those who resided in Heaven are thrown into Hell and, vice versa, those confined in Hell can buy your indulgence and group until you get close to God. The representation of heaven on earth thakes the viewer to the next step: we are not seeing a reversal anymore, there are no longer two places where to confine and keeo separate from sinners, but everything lives in the same place where everything is confused. The dividing line between what is right and what is wrong vanishes in this earthly paradise that looks all but '' Eden '.

Dal 18 al 29 ottobre sono in mostra presso il centro per l'arte contemporanea La Nuova Pesa a Roma , in collaborazione con la Ierimonti Gallery in New York, il nuovo progetto di Marina Sagona:Eden, attraverso cui l'artista pone l'accento sull'inversione di valori che caratterizza il mondo contemporaneo:valori come l'amore, l'amicizia, la compassione vengono svuotati della loro funzione positiva, emarginati per dare spazio a un nuovo sentire. Il mondo è catapultato in un nuovo "stato di Natura", in cui vige la legge del più forte, e si instaura un regime di assoluta libertà che si trasforma in anarchia e stato di guerra.
Le opere di Marina Sagona proseguono una riflessione avviata nel precedente progetto, che aveva per tema le donne della Divina Commedia, e pongono una serie di domande: come giudicherebbe la società odierna le donne condannate da Dante? Cosa significa essere dannati o salvati, nel mondo di oggi? Cos’è ai nostri giorni l’Eden dei vivi?
Marina  Sagona ci fa calare in questo mondo attraverso le sue tele, dove avviene un’inversione di ruoli: chi risiedeva in Paradiso viene gettato all’Inferno, e viceversa chi era confinato all’Inferno riesce a comprarsi la propria indulgenza e a scalarne i gironi fino ad arrivare prossimo a Dio. Tuttavia è nella rappresentazione del paradiso terrestre che si realizza il passo successivo: qui non assistiamo più ad un’inversione, non ci sono più due luoghi dove poter confinare e separare i meritevoli dai peccatori, ma tutto vive nello stesso luogo, tutto si confonde. La linea di demarcazione tra ciò che è giusto e ciò che è sbagliato svanisce in questo paradiso terrestre che a tutto assomiglia fuorché all’ “Eden”.
