DIVERGENCES TOWARDS THE CENTRE-NEI ALBERTI EXHIBITION

Thursday, 22 June 2018 at 6.30 p.m. will see the inauguration in Rome’s Villino Pignatelli of the first personal exhibition in Italy by Spanish artist Nei Albertí. Entitled Divergences towards the centre and curated by Sveva Manfredi Zavaglia, the project was conceived by Elena Francia Gabriele from the London agency EFG – Art – Ltd and is sponsored by the Spanish Embassy in Italy. The exhibition features a dozen or so works of sculpture and installation pieces, each highly characteristic of the artist’s creative process. They include three site-specific pieces (one approximately 30 square metres in size) that invade the halls of the exhibition space in the Villino Pignatelli, a historic neo-Renaissance palace in the centre of Rome.
 The artist explores the concepts of full and empty space and volume through the use of threads, methacrylate, spandex and glass, expanding his investigation of light with the delicate use of led spotlight software. The works are composed of semi-transparent coloured nets of Lycra, which the artist adapts and stretches in relation to the available space in a search for an equilibrium between form, size and the surrounding environment, or uses to cage illuminated transparent cubes, where the play of light and multi-coloured threads reverberates on the walls of the display space.
 Nei Albertí’s underlying aim is to focus attention on two key themes that reoccur in his work: time and rhythm. As he states himself, “we are forever running to gain time, but we lose a lot of time running.” The exhibition is an invitation to enjoy a slow, motivational stroll along a path packed with tension and full of mystery and suspense, allowing spectators to sense the fears and joys of the creative act.

 Dal 22 giugno al 22 luglio 2018 si terrà a Roma, al Villino Pignatelli, la prima mostra personale in Italia dell’artista spagnolo Nei Albertí dal titolo Divergenze al centro, a cura di Sveva Manfredi Zavaglia. Il progetto è stato ideato dall’agenzia londinese EFG – Art – Ltd di Elena Francia Gabriele, con il patrocinio dell’Ambasciata di Spagna in Italia. In mostra una decina di opere tra sculture e installazioni, esemplificative del processo creativo dell’artista, tra cui due site specific di grandi dimensioni (circa 20 mq ciascuna) che invaderanno i due saloni dello spazio del Villino Pignatelli, palazzo storico neorinascimentale nel centro di Roma.
L’artista esplora i concetti di spazio e volume, pieno e vuoto attraverso l’utilizzo di fili, metacrilato, spandex, vetro, spingendosi fino all’indagine della luce con l’utilizzo di un software leggero per le luci led spotlight. Le sue opere si compongono in reti colorate di lycra semitrasparente, che l’artista adatta, tirandole, in relazione allo spazio, alla ricerca di un equilibrio tra forma e dimensioni dell’ambiente circostante, oppure le ingabbia in cubi trasparenti illuminati, dove il gioco di luci e fili variopinti si riverbera sulle pareti della teca. In una delle stanze del Villino, già in origine utilizzata come area di raccoglimento e preghiera, l’artista creerà un ambiente di meditazione, accessibile solo singolarmente, per permettere allo spettatore una riflessione profonda che coinvolga tutti i sensi.
 Nei Albertí sembra voler focalizzare l’attenzione su due tematiche chiave che ricorrono nel suo lavoro: il tempo e il ritmo. Come lui stesso afferma “corriamo sempre per guadagnare tempo, ma perdiamo un sacco di tempo nel correre”. La mostra è un invito a un percorso lento, colmo di tensioni piene di mistero e di suspense, dove si possono percepire le paure e le gioie dell’atto creativo.
